Deer Fence Installation

Wildlife Exclusion Fencing Built for Arkansas Deer Pressure

Arkansas has serious deer pressure across most of the state. A small herd can clear an unprotected vegetable garden in a single night, strip a young orchard to bare bark in one season, or wipe out a vineyard before its first harvest. Deer-exclusion fencing is its own engineering category, with height and structural requirements very different from a standard yard fence.

Delta Fence LLC builds wildlife exclusion fencing across Central Arkansas for residential gardeners, orchards, vineyards, and rural property owners. The reason standard fences fail is simple: a startled deer clears eight feet from a standing position and routinely jumps a six-foot fence without a running start. Wide-mesh wire lets juvenile deer push straight through. And deer probe a perimeter relentlessly, so a fence that is strong for ninety percent of its length and weak for the other ten percent is no fence at all.

Owner Kade Endl specs every deer fence to the property and the pressure it faces, from a one-acre garden enclosure to a multi-acre orchard or vineyard perimeter. We work around mature plantings, root zones, and existing irrigation lines, and we set posts at proper depth and tension so the fence holds its line for decades. Delta Fence is licensed, insured, and bonded, and we know how Central Arkansas wildlife actually behaves.

Fence Configurations

Deer Fence Designs We Build

There is no single right answer for deer fencing. The best configuration depends on the deer pressure, the value of what is being protected, and the look you can live with. Here are the designs we install most often.

■

Standard 8′ Deer Fence

An eight-foot woven wire or welded wire mesh fence on T-posts or wood posts. This is the most common build and is effective against most deer most of the time. Lower heights simply do not stop an adult deer.

■

8′ Fence With Electric Outrigger

An eight-foot woven wire fence paired with a single electrified strand set twelve to eighteen inches outside the fence at deer-shoulder height. The hot wire trains deer to avoid the perimeter entirely. Highly effective.

■

Double-Row Fence

Two parallel five- to six-foot fences set four to six feet apart. Deer cannot judge the depth of the second barrier and will not attempt the jump. The strongest option for serious orchard and vineyard protection.

■

Slanted 7′ Fence

A seven-foot fence tilted away from the protected area at roughly forty-five degrees. It reads shorter than it functionally is, deters deer effectively, and has a lower visual impact than a vertical eight-foot wall of wire.

■

Vineyard & Orchard Perimeter

Long-perimeter agricultural installs with proper post spacing and wire tensioning. We install around existing plantings, working carefully around root zones and irrigation so the crop is undisturbed.

■

Hog & Predator Add-Ons

Feral hogs need buried bottom mesh and an L-footer; coyotes need anti-climb features; bears need an electrified deterrent. We add the right protection on top of the deer fence for whatever else is on your property.

Why Standard Fences Fail

Why an Ordinary Fence Does Not Stop Deer

01

They Clear 6′ Fences

A startled deer jumps eight feet from a standing start, and even without a running start they routinely clear six-foot fences. A standard four- or five-foot yard fence is no barrier at all. Height is the first thing a deer fence has to get right.

02

They Squeeze Through Wide Mesh

Welded wire with openings of six inches or more lets juvenile deer push straight through the fabric. Deer fencing needs graduated or tight mesh so the barrier works against young deer as well as adults.

03

They Probe Weak Points

Deer walk a perimeter and test it. A fence that is strong almost everywhere but weak at one corner, gate, or low spot is no fence at all. Every section, every gate, and every grade change has to be built to the same standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Deer Fencing

How tall does a deer fence need to be?

Eight feet is the minimum for a standard vertical deer fence. A slanted fence tilted away from the protected area at roughly forty-five degrees can work at seven feet because it reads as a wider obstacle. Double-row fences of two parallel five- to six-foot fences also work, because deer cannot judge the depth of the second barrier and will not commit to the jump. Anything below six feet does not reliably stop an adult deer.

How much does a deer fence cost in Central Arkansas?

Deer fence cost depends on the mesh type, the post material, the height, and the total perimeter. Woven wire on T-posts is the most economical option, woven or welded wire on wood posts costs more, and an eight-foot chain link deer fence is the most substantial and most expensive. A one-acre garden enclosure and a multi-acre orchard or vineyard perimeter are very different projects. Delta Fence provides free on-site quotes with written line-item pricing. Call (501) 626-7024 for a quote on your property.

Will a deer fence also stop hogs?

Not on its own. Feral hogs root underneath wire fencing rather than going over it, so a deer fence has to be paired with buried bottom mesh that extends below grade plus an outward-facing L-footer to stop hogs. Feral hogs are a growing problem across Arkansas, so if your property has hog pressure, tell us up front and we will build the bottom of the fence to handle it.

Does electric fencing work for deer?

A single electrified strand set twelve to eighteen inches outside an eight-foot fence at deer-shoulder height is highly effective as a training deterrent, because the deer learns to avoid the perimeter before it ever reaches the physical barrier. Pure electric fencing with no physical fence behind it is far less reliable. We install the outrigger strand as an add-on to a standard deer fence for properties with heavy pressure.

How long does deer fencing last in Arkansas?

Service life depends on the materials. Quality woven wire on wood posts lasts roughly twenty-five to thirty-five years, welded wire roughly twenty to thirty, and an eight-foot chain link deer fence twenty-five to forty years. Lighter polypropylene deer mesh is the budget option and lasts closer to seven to twelve years. We will walk you through the trade-off between upfront cost and service life during your quote.

Can you install deer fencing around an existing orchard or vineyard?

Yes. Perimeter installs around mature plantings are routine for us. We work carefully around root zones and existing irrigation lines so the crop is not disturbed, and we plan the post layout and gate placement around how you actually move equipment in and out. Call (501) 626-7024 to schedule a site walk.

How long does deer fence installation take?

A one-acre garden perimeter typically takes two to three days. A five-acre vineyard or orchard perimeter usually runs one to two weeks. Larger agricultural perimeters can take two to four weeks depending on total linear footage, terrain, and gate count. You get a realistic schedule with your written quote.
